Micro-Depots - the new Last Mile logistics
Cities should become greener and more sustainable. With micro-hubs, we create logistical locations in the network of cities and private individuals where goods arrive via established parcel and general cargo logistics networks and from there are finely distributed with CO2-neutral small vehicles. This enables emission-free delivery and saves time and costs. Because the hub avoids second-row parking and optimizes handling and storage processes through time-shifted deliveries on the last mile.
Micro Depot in the state capital Dresden
Sustainable solution for delivery traffic.
Since September 2023, a micro depot has been located at Dr.-Friedrich-Wolf-Straße 11 at Dresden-Neustadt railway station. The previously unused space will serve parcel service providers such as Hermes Germany GmbH, DPD Germany and GLS Germany GmbH & Co. OHG as a central logistics hub in future. From here, hundreds of orders can be delivered to recipients within a radius of up to five kilometres every day with zero emissions and low noise levels using electric cargo bikes.
Further locations in the city will follow, taking into account the results of the first project phase.
Quartiers-Hub in Hamburg's Holstenstraße
Space for logistics, mobility, and social projects.
The Quartiers-Hub on Holstenstraße in Hamburg combines logistics, mobility and social projects at one location. The joint project celebrated its opening on 17.02.2023 and was developed within the framework of the EU funding project Move21, which includes further projects until April 2025. The aim of the project is to find innovative solutions in the area of passenger and goods transport for the reduction of climate-damaging transport emissions. The Depot is, therefore, home to a food bank run by DeinTopf, a social counselling centre, and a transshipment point for parcel service providers to cover the last mile by cargo bike.
The new Micro-Depot at Alex
Micro depots second location
Another location of the Micro Depot is directly at Berlin Alexanderplatz railway station. The multi-user depot is centrally located in the city centre, is functional and needs-based and has easy access for users.
In addition to the use of a dedicated DB space directly in the S-Bahn arches of Alexanderplatz station, the power supply is supported by solar panels on the sunny side of the building as an additional power source. The aim is to develop an inner-city and cross-regional depot network on own, municipal or private land.
The sustainable logistics system promotes partnership-based and space-efficient utilisation and openness for interested logistics companies and consignors. It was launched with the two logistics partners DPD and CityLog.
Micro-Hub at the Te-Damm in Berlin
A research project in a strong partnership.
On October 1, 2020, we opened a micro-hub at Tempelhofer Damm in cooperation with the district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg as project initiator, which is partly funded by the BMVI and co-financed by us. A hub that reflects the aspects of functionality, aesthetics and sustainability in almost all construction elements and provides the prerequisites for the use in partnership and opening for further logisticians, retailers and start-ups. The four-year partnership lays the foundation for the development of further stations and other cities.
