The Smart City Partnership with Potsdam
More attractive train stations for Brandenburg's state capital
In October 2024, Deutsche Bahn entered into a Smart City partnership with the state capital of Potsdam. The aim is to turn four selected stations in Potsdam into mobility hubs - with modern onward travel and more attractive station environments. Specifically, this involves Potsdam's main station and the Golm, Griebnitzsee and Pirschheide stations. These are all important stations for daily shuttle services. The project is being financed with funding from the federal "Smart Cities Model Projects" program.
Improved onward travel and holistic development of the station environment
The aim of the partnership is to make it easier for citizens to switch from cars to public transport. Depending on the location, different sharing offers such as e-bikes, e-scooters or electric cars are to be created, which commuters can use for the first and last mile. In addition, the station forecourts are to be equipped with new recreational areas, play equipment for children as well as smart street lighting and wayfinding, with the support of the public service infrastructure company's station forecourt competence center.
